First pictures of the Moroccan Movie Set August 31st, 2008

Our first glimpses at the construction of the Prince of Persia movie set have come to us via Korben & Rocho. These pictures were taken at Ait Ben Haddou in Morocco; it looks like they are creating a full town with streets et al. It is also interesting to compare them to the concept art that was released in April 2007.

Character list and plot details: Hal, Abin Sur, Sinestro, Legion, Hector Hammond August 31st, 2008

The IESB have had a chance to sit down with Greg Berlanti’s Green Lantern. After reading the screenplay through it appears that first impressions are very good; Berlanti and writers Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green have got the character just right. (Unlike some unmentionable Jack Black treatment).

To setup the story, it opens with a narrative;

With the revelation of Oa and The Central Battery with a voice over narration explaining that 1) there are extraterrestrials that protect the universe, 2) they have power rings, 3) there are thousands of Green Lanterns and 4) one of us has become one of them.

Continuing, the plot arc follows the ‘traditional’ Hal Jordan / Green Lantern route, making sure to include a battle scene between Legion and Abin Sur; Sur’s crashing to Earth and the “choosing of Hal Jordan over Guy Gardner and Clark Kent“.

Abin Sur

IESB’s Robert Sanchez also reveals this list of characters that are set to appear in the movie:

Martin Jordan (Hal’s father)
Hal Jordan/Green Lantern
Thomas Kalmuka
Carl Ferris
Carol Ferris
Kilowog
Tomar-Re
Abin Sur
Thaal Sinestro
The Guardians
Legion
Hector Hammond

Citing that the Sinestro plot arc has changed somewhat – in keeping with a setup story and storing more for a possible sequel. This leaves Hector Hammond as the central threat to Earth. This script heavily focuses on the science fiction elements – with interstellar travel and other galaxies. Whilst the reality hit that the Dark Knight gave us may have swayed studios away form the fantastical, I’m sure with the release of Star Trek they’ll all be rushing to cash in on the next big scifi phenomenon; as fickle as this business is.

First word from the studio exec’s is that this is good, no word of a budget yet but the murmurings are encouraging.

Tanker Explosion at Long Beach August 30th, 2008

It feels like a game of Burnout – 100 points for a Tanker… crashbreaker! This is a SECOND explosion, a chain reaction of sorts.

This is a down the road shot of an oncoming Tanker (seen here) that encounters the wreckage of the previous car explosion (High Res video of that blast showing car flip), and inevitably collides directly with it, exploding all over the place with a giant plumage of black smoke – setting car alarms off in the surrounding vicinity. More cussing again…

“That was awesome.”

Thanks for the heads up Robert. TLAMB also have some close up shots of the Tanker after its big scene:

Here are some more videos from the night. The first shows a practice run before the big explosion. The second comes from Gettodeath and is more of the Autobot parade. The last one is a low quality phone video of the bots being overtaken by a honking Chevy Volt.

High Resolution Video of the Long Beach Explosion August 28th, 2008

This HD video comes in thanks to Edward, warning there is strong language, if some of you are sensitive to that sort of thing. This is the best close up video of the explosion yet:

Footage of blue/purple Chevy Volt from Long Beach August 28th, 2008

Robert from Modern Myth has sent us this video showing the Autobot parade from higher up and a new purple car that is being prepared for filming before driving away, as the camera zooms in you can clearly see the Chevy’s “Volt” name on the rear.

This vehicle was previously confirmed in July. Though this one does look a lot more slick than the concept image.

(Video included after the break… it auto starts)

More Long Beach images, explosion footage August 28th, 2008

We knew that better footage of the explosion would be coming, and here it is, coming from fmd805 are three videos, the first shows the explosion from side on, the second shows the filming of the aftermath and the third is more of the autobot fleet:

The next video is by the ever reliable Gettodeath, via TLAMB, it warms up with some shots of Optimus Prime and down the road shots showing cars pulling away. It then cuts to a side angle which precedes an almighty blast:

These next images come via Slash Film’s Ricky C and TLAMB’s Gettodeath again – showing the fleet of autobots and some closeups of the explosion aftermath.

Second picture set from Long Beach filming August 28th, 2008

fq9 and Flickr user djlakitu have posted new images from the Long Beach Transformers set, this time showing more Chinese symbols, oriental police cars, dirty automobiles with furniture atop the roof, a crunched up taxi, the previously mentioned flatbeds (set report), assorted autobots (albeit undercover) and a tanker with two wholes cut out of the front and rear.

Videos from Long Beach August 27th, 2008

EDIT: A much better video of the Autobots “rolling out” has been provided thanks to R. over at TLAMB, this video shows Bumblebee, Optimus, the silver Corvette, Ironhide, the Chevy Beat and Chevy Trax all driving in formation:

Here is our first video of the explosions down on the Queensway in Long Beach, sadly it was captured on a phone camera and you need to tilt your head or rotate your screen to enjoy this one… . However, it does get the money shot – showing the explosion right at the beginning.
