Samuel L. Jackson having problems with Nick Fury in Iron Man 2 January 15th, 2009

Speaking with Geoff Boucher of the LA Times Samuel L. Jackson revealed that “somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it”, adding, “there seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world.”. This comes despite Jackson’s post-credits final scene appearance in Iron Man, donned in trench coat and eye patch, and the Ultimate Marvel Universe character ‘Ultimate Nick Fury’ being a re-imagined version of Nick Fury (formerly a white colonel) based on Samuel L. Jackson, with his permission.

“I saw [’Iron Man’ and ‘Iron Man 2′ director] Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, ‘I hope things are working out for you because we’re writing stuff for you.’ Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren’t really working that well.”

“There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they’re saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal.’”

It’s possible this public statement from Jackson could be a part of a ploy to get a better contract from Marvel Studios, although Jon Favreau and Terrence Howard, (Rhodey has now been recast with Don Cheadle taking on the role), have both outwardly shown similar contractual and funding issues.

Superion toy shows up, don’t get too excited January 15th, 2009

Many are touting the multi-part autobot Superion toy as proof of a Devastator/Constructicon opponent in Revenge of the Fallen, solely on the toy’s package description:

The mighty union of the five AERIALBOTS, SUPERION thinks of little else besides destroying any DECEPTICONS he encounters, and protecting any innocent bystanders nearby. The robots that combine to form this powerful warrior are experienced teammates, working in tandem to see that the AUTOBOTS emerge victorious from the fire of THE ANCIENT WAR.

Silverbolt — Aerialbots leader
Airazor — Small but fierce
Fireflight — Easily distracted daydreamer
Skydive — Aerial strategy expert
Air Raid — Reckless divebomber

In actuality this toy is simply a resprayed Transformers: Energon toy. It has not been redesigned to match the ROTF robot theme, and is practically the same as its outing in 2006 — suggesting, instead of Superion appearing in the movie, that Hasbro are cashing in on the ‘transform and combine’ theme prevalent with Devastator and possibly the twins and Arcee.

Eckhart comments on Harvey Dent’s future at Globes January 11th, 2009

From MTV:

“I think Harvey — if he’s not dead — is in a serious coma,” stated Eckhart, “and I’m not sure he’s coming out. They might pull the plug on him.” Seemingly firm words, right? Except even the notion that his alter-ego is still alive is a clear departure from previous statements where the actor was perfectly fine confirming Harvey’s death at the business end of a freefalling drop.

We know from our recent interview with producer Charles Roven that screenwriters Christopher Nolan and David Goyer have begun brainstorming ideas for a third “Batman” film…could something out of that have led to Eckhart’s about-face on Two-Face? His wink-wink-nod-nod answer seems to suggest that something else may be at play.

Are MTV clutching at straws here?
